In May 2015 I was assigned to work with students in a low-income nursing home. This experience changed my life forever! As a registered nurse, I have always been SO COMPASSIONATE towards the older adult population and I just want to hug and help them all. On our clinical days that summer, the students and I would leave the nursing home in tears. There were adults in their fifties and sixties living in a nursing home. WHY? Some of them in diapers, some with severe diabetes and heart disease. The employees did not want the students to help the residents to the bathroom. The employees said it was easier for them to change diapers, then to help the residents to the bathroom. How humiliating to an adult to wear a diaper when it is not necessary! It was a heartbreaking experience.
This horrific experience changed my life forever. I vowed that I would not end up in a nursing home. I want to see my children become young adults, get married, have children, and I want to be a part of their life for many blissful years to come. I am not one to just sit around and not be active. I love to travel and spend time with my family and friends. I want to be able to hike, explore and keep up with my children and grandchildren for many years to come.
I have been active and fit my entire life, although I have definitely eaten my fair share of hamburgers and French fries. My worst habit was drinking Coke….how I loved Coke.
I made a life-changing decision in May 2015. I am going to BEAT THE URGE!!! BEAT SUGAR!! BEAT UNHEALTHY HABITS and get in the best shape of my life. I began an entirely new workout program, something in addition to just weight lifting and cardio. Every day I worked my entire body doing different exercises and working those stubborn abdominal muscles. Did anyone think crunches would really work? I found the most incredible abdominal workout that really strengthened my abdominal muscles and I was rapidly in great shape. I reached out to my friends and asked them to join my fit group and I met with them every morning for 30 minutes and we did a total body work out. Those who were serious transformed their bodies quickly. I had women in their 40s and 50s looking better than young women in their twenties. Yes, it’s true. I had many twenty and thirty years old ask me to help them. They didn’t last long- “too hard”, “too tired”, “sick to my stomach”. They were just not committed enough. Oscar Wilde — said that youth is wasted on the young. Don’t let this happen to you. Let me help you be the healthiest and happiest you can be.
As one thing lead to another, I began extensive research on how to maintain health. Along with my medical experience in the hospital, the answer became clear. Health and wellness are based on what you eat. Yes, there are some medical conditions that lead a person to be overweight, but those are in the minority and for the most part, can be beaten. You choose every day what to eat and whether to exercise. There is so much misinformation on the internet and most sites want you to pay money for a quick fix. The problem is the quick fix will harm your body and it is not sustainable. The healthy way to lose weight is 1-2 pounds per week. The first week you will lose more weight because you will lose a significant amount of water. Women take longer than men to lose the same equivalent amount of weight.
You should be honest with yourself. It took you a long time to put on the weight, so you must realize it will take some time and effort to take it back off again. Everyone always wants the weight off NOW! However, the process requires a commitment and that’s what I am here for; to guide and coach you. We look for fad diets (UNHEALTHY), we join gyms and expect miracles, we take pills with unknown ingredients. Why would you ever put such garbage in your precious, amazing, and beautiful body? DON’T DO IT! It is very difficult to find truthful data on the internet unless you really know how to weed through and interpret the information. So many “healthy” smoothies and such are full of sugar. Sugar makes everything taste good, but it is very bad for your body. As I told my students, “This is your crack, your sugar crack!” Get sugar out of your life for 21 days. Then, you will realize how BAD sugar tastes. We have been programmed to look at the presentation of sweets and we trick our mind into how good it tastes. When you look at those pastries visualize damaged hearts, blood vessels full of plaque, kidneys backed up with glue and then food takes on a whole new meaning. It only takes 21 days to break a habit and on your way to a new beginning. There is nothing to buy- no pills, shakes, supplements….just help with changing your habits and decisions. A healthy beginning. I WILL HELP YOU!
